(Translated) Playing in the Shadows: The American shadow over Dominican development (Translated) Abstract: The purpose of this research paper was to investigate the influence that the United States and that American culture has had on the development of the Dominican Republic. The sport of baseball was featured as a key result of this influence, and the research conducted was intended to produce an understanding of why the American sport of baseball has such a prominent position in Dominican culture. The history of American occupation in the D.R. was discussed, leading into the spread of American culture through baseball and the dominating presence of Major League Baseball (MLB) within the country that exists today. The evidence of American hegemony presented through these topics support the stance that the Dominican Republic developed within the shadow of the United States. *This research paper was completed and written in Spanish. ![]()
